Three useful ways to work with percentages

A percentage of an amount

Divide the percentage by one hundred, then multiply by the amount.

15% of 80=15100×80=1215\% \text{ of } 80 = \frac{15}{100} \times 80 = 12

A part as a percentage

Divide the part by the whole, then multiply by one hundred. The whole cannot be zero.

2080×100=25%\frac{20}{80} \times 100 = 25\%

Percentage change

Compare the difference with the positive original value, not the new value.

100−8080×100=25%\frac{100 - 80}{80} \times 100 = 25\%
